Caring for others is at the heart of everything we do at Colorado PACE. But to continue providing compassionate, meaningful care, it's also important to make time to care for the people who provide it.
Last week, Colorado PACE hosted Team Member Development Day, closing the center for a day dedicated to learning, connection, team building, and professional development.
The day gave team members an opportunity to step away from their daily responsibilities and come together as a team. Through training and shared experiences, employees strengthened relationships, learned from one another, and focused on ways to continue growing both individually and together.
One of the day's educational sessions focused on Compassion Fatigue: When It Hurts to Care.
Compassion fatigue can be an important concern for people working in caregiving professions. When our work involves consistently supporting others through challenging circumstances, the emotional demands can add up over time.
The session provided an opportunity for the Colorado PACE team to learn more about compassion fatigue, recognize potential signs, and discuss strategies for caring for themselves and supporting one another.
Making space for these conversations is an important part of creating a workplace where employees feel supported and valued. It also reinforces an important message: Caring for others doesn't mean we should overlook our own well-being.
Team Member Development Day reflects Colorado PACE's commitment to investing in its team. Time spent learning, connecting, and reflecting together strengthens the relationships that help a team work effectively — and ultimately benefits the older adults and families we serve.
We're grateful for the Colorado PACE team and the compassion, dedication, and expertise they bring to their work every day.
Because when we take care of the people who care for others, everyone benefits.
