Healthy Feet, Greater Independence: Medical Foot Care for Older Adults

Healthy feet do more than help us get from place to place. They play an important role in mobility, safety and the ability to continue enjoying everyday activities.

As people age, foot concerns may become more common. Conditions such as diabetes, neuropathy, circulation problems, arthritis and heart disease can make routine foot care especially important. Regular assessments can help identify changes that may need additional medical attention and provide an opportunity to discuss foot health with a medical professional.

Medical Foot Care That Supports Wellness

Colorado Visiting Nurse Association (CVNA) offers Medical Foot Care Clinics throughout the Denver metro area, with locations that include Boulder, Castle Rock and Brighton.

During a 30-minute appointment, a nurse can provide:
  • Toenail clipping and filing
  • Evaluation of corns and calluses
  • A complete foot assessment
  • Blood pressure monitoring
  • Foot care education
  • Coordination with a primary care provider when needed
CVNA welcomes all feet, including those requiring special attention because of diabetes, neuropathy, circulation concerns or cardiac conditions.

These visits offer more than routine foot care. They also provide an opportunity to monitor changes, ask questions and receive guidance that supports overall health.

Foot Care at Home for Eligible Members

For people who are homebound, traveling to an appointment can be a challenge. CVNA also offers At Home Foot Care for Kaiser Permanente Medicare members who are homebound and have a physician referral.

A Medical Foot Nurse can provide a comprehensive foot exam, neuropathy screening, circulation checks, blood pressure monitoring, medication review, chronic condition assessment and individualized health coaching and education.

Bringing these services into the home helps eligible members access important foot care and health monitoring without needing to travel to a clinic.

Take a Step Toward Better Foot Health

Foot care is an important part of caring for the whole person. Whether through a community clinic or eligible in-home services, CVNA helps older adults make foot health a priority as they work to remain active, safe and independent.
