Connecting With Veterans Through Compassion And Gratitude
For Veterans and their families, questions about grief support, palliative care and hospice care can bring uncertainty. Having someone available to listen, provide information and help explain available resources can make navigating those questions a little easier.
Pikes Peak Hospice & Palliative Care is committed to supporting Veterans in our community, and Veteran Liaison Sonya Bergeron helps make those connections possible.
A Welcoming Place to Find Answers
On the second Tuesday of each month, Sonya spends time in the lobby of Mt. Carmel Veterans Service Center in Colorado Springs, talking with Veterans who have questions about grief support, palliative care or hospice care.
These visits provide an opportunity for Veterans to ask questions, learn about available services and have conversations about care and support in a welcoming setting.
Whether someone is seeking information for themselves, a family member or a fellow Veteran, having a knowledgeable resource can help them better understand their options.
A Small Gesture With a Meaningful Message
During her most recent visit, Sonya also collected signatures for thank-you cards that will be given to Pikes Peak Hospice & Palliative Care’s Veteran hospice patients in November.
These cards offer a simple but heartfelt way to recognize the men and women who have served our country. For Veterans receiving hospice care, knowing that their service is remembered and appreciated can be a meaningful expression of gratitude.
Honoring Those Who Have Served
At Pikes Peak Hospice & Palliative Care, honoring Veterans means recognizing their experiences, listening to their stories and providing care that respects their service and individual needs.
Through community outreach and thoughtful gestures of appreciation, our team works to ensure Veterans and their families know they are not alone as they navigate serious illness, end-of-life care or grief.
We’re grateful to Sonya Bergeron for her dedication to connecting with Veterans and to Mt. Carmel Veterans Service Center for providing a place where these important conversations can happen.
To every Veteran we have the privilege of serving: thank you for your service. It is an honor to support you.
